Leave Me In

This one dates back to my first year out of college, related to a break-up between Ashley (my wife) and me. It deals with still being attached to someone’s life, even after a relationship ends. Ashley recommended this one as we approach a milestone anniversary in this posting period (for those of you not close to the site, she’s the real engine behind everything that goes on here).

I struggled on this one for 2 decades, because I wrestled with getting 3 concepts reflected: leaving someone in your life; walking away in tears yourself; and having the other party walk away in tears, reluctantly. The last one is what I tried to build the song around—both parties are upset, but they’re not sure how to handle the situation because the person you usually turn to is the source of the hurt.

We took off “Jump Up and Down” this week. Thanks again for listening.
